Waldman, 1998) This process is similar to a former rating process called upward feedback, where feedback is gained from subordinates to rate superiors but does not include peers or customers. When it comes time to give yourself a performance rating, research shows that individuals do not evaluate themselves accurately or at least not in line with how others view them, because of unreliability and bias and are inaccurate when compared with ratings provided by others or with other objective measures. (Herbet H. Meyer) Negative feedback is usually discounted or not mentioned, but on the other hand positive feedback is generally more accepted and is the most accurate than the negative feedback. When negative feedback is in the form of an anonymous message, it is difficult to discount or deny what was said, so it is more likely to be accepted. Meyer) The intent of an effective performance evaluation to me is to modify my actions at work to get in line with the goals of the organization and making sure that I am doing my part to the best of my ability to uphold my weight at work. In the military, I have seen more than one type of evaluation being done and is very effective. Early on in my career, I was introduced to 360 degree feedback that was anonymous and was done after working with some peers after several weeks and sometimes results can be surprising or can be a wakeup call for some. The people you work with, and not the ones you work for often give you a more accurate assessment because they are with you every day and know your strengths and weaknesses. The objective of performance evaluations in the military is to weed out the weak and to promote the strong. Every time I start a new job, I am given an initial counseling outlining my goals, objectives, expectations and professional d evelopment. After the initial counseling, feedback is given to me verbally along the way, and then quarterly, I will sit with my supervisor and receive a formal evaluation letting me know if I have been meeting the intent or not. If this process is done correctly in any organization, it will force people to be more responsible and hold them accountable for their actions. To me, the most harm you can do to an individual is fail to give them evaluations, fair evaluations in particular, because if this is one, you are only setting them up for failure and they have the false sense of success, and most of the time not meeting organizational standards and practices. The only thing that differs from performance evaluations in the military and ones done in the civilian sector, is that in the military, you will get a pay increase every year in January, and also get one at least every two years in your career whether you advance in rank or not. There are time requirements for rank, but goo d performance evaluations can help you accelerate on time or sometimes faster than usual. I believe 360 degree feedback is the most effective system to measure individual performance, and gives managers a good idea of who is a good team player and who only works well with management supervision. It is nearly impossible for a manager of a large company to effectively evaluate each employee and give an accurate account of their work performance. The use of supervisors and peers help to facilitate and provide details and usually is more accurate when coming from someone in the same position as you. Alexander Hamilton, a son, a student, a writer, a hero. To sum up all of Hamilton’s mammoth triumphs would be quite the task, but that is exactly what Ron Chernow does in his biography entitled, â€Å"Alexander Hamilton.† Published by The Penguin Press, â€Å"Alexander Hamilton,† is an incredible biography that goes through the life of Alexander Hamilton in chronological order. Chernow is successful in his effort to go deeper into the life of Hamilton by studying not only Hamilton’s life but also the lives of those Hamilton interacted with. â€Å"Alexander Hamilton,† is an incredibly well written book that gives readers an in depth description of who Hamilton was, the time he lived in, and the events that happened during his life time. The amazing accomplishments and the incredible description of the Hamilton through hardships helps readers really understand who Hamilton was. Chernow goes through the entirety of Hamilton’s incredible life in tremendous detail. The biography informs the reader about Hamilton’s life in way that makes the reader feel the way Hamilton felt. Chernow helps readers understand the amazing Alexander Hamilton’s feelings through Hamilton’s written letters and descriptions of his hardships this makes readers able to see Hamilton as human. Hamilton is an incredibly impressive character, who defied all the odds of heritage and yet readers still see him as human. Luke Bryan Music and Physchological Expression Essay Oxford Dictionary defines emotion as a strong feel of emotions derived from one’s circumstances, mood, or relationships with others. Luke Bryan is the most acclaimed name in Country today. His songs vary from good times which make people want to stand up in dance, to heartbreak of losing a loved one. Bryan has a rough life which dates back to the beginning of his career on his road to the trip. Luke’s music reflects the passing of Luke’s siblings at huge moments in his life. Luke’s songs relate to many who go through hard times with money, passing of a loved one, or having a good time through his albums â€Å"I’ll Stay Me†, â€Å"Crash My Party†, and â€Å"Tailgates and Tan Lines†. Luke also relates to the â€Å"regular Joe† or working man with his father working as a peanut farmer in the small Georgia town that he grew up in. The human emotions act different to arts, situations, and surroundings. Music gives people a emotion that we cannot feel from many other things. Luke’s songs show how emotions can change due to music and the sychology of music through strong emotional bonds and powerful lyrics. Luke Bryan’s hometown is strongly reflected in his lyrics. Luke is from a small Georgia town called Leesburg. In the song â€Å"Dirt Road Diary† on the â€Å"Crash My Party† album Luke sings â€Å"Just ride around my little town and you’ll see how I wrote my dirt road diary. † (Crash My Party, Luke Bryan) Luke is Reflecting on the Southern small town in Georgia that he hails from. Luke shows that his whole life is in that small little town and the dirt roads that he drove down throughout his life. Whether it be with his friends or his family it is like his own personal diary because of all the memories that the roads hold. The town Luke grew up in is a reflection of him and who he is today. In an interview with Southern Living, Luke said, â€Å"My Georgia roots are 99% of what my music is about. † (Luke Bryan, Southern Living) Luke admits here that through his music, he reflects on his home town. The son of a peanut farmer from the small town of Leesburg, Georgia that has fought for a career in music, who puts his heart and soul into every lyric he sings in his songs. Not every aspect of Bryan’s life went well for him, when the unexpected death of his two siblings occurred. Luke’s music reflects on his small hometown in Georgia but Luke’s music also shows how to deal with grief. Luke Bryan has had a extremely difficult life when it comes to the topic of death. Bryan, the night before he was going to move to Nashville to pursue a music career, lost his brother Chris unexpectedly in a car accident. Luke stayed home with his parents until his father, at the time his boss, told him if he did not move to Nashville he would fire him, without this Luke would not be were he is today. Luke’s dad realized his potential and did not let him sit around and mope but to follow his dreams. So that is what Luke did, he moved to Nashville and had his first big performance in front of his whole family including his sister Kelly. Kelly died of unknown causes the next night. Luke again was devastated. The only two siblings Luke had were taken away from him at such young ages. Yet, Luke still pursued his dream and is now the entertainer of the year, country’s biggest award . Luke discusses this in an interview with 20/20† My older brother, Chris, was unexpectedly illed in a car accident, Bryan said. Im kind of hyperventilating talking about it. You never truly move beyond it† (Luke Bryan, ABC News ) Luke is devastated by the loss of his brother and sister but has to move on from it. Luke knows that one can never pass over the memory of a loved one especially his brother and sister, but expresses his grief through his music. Now music is not the same for everyone. Different people react to different kinds of music. Not every person is the same and have different taste pertaining to styles of music they prefer. No one has an answer why because it is too complex for most to understand.
